Setting Goals and Intentions
Our survival brain prefers the familiar or what has kept us alive so we often operate on autopilot for most of our day which is why it is so hard to break free from habits that no longer serve us.
Spending time visualising our ideal self and who we want to become in the long term keeps us motivated and committed to our goals while also training the brain to start attending to the things that will help us achieve these goals.
Creating a vision board acts as a visual cue to prompt this positive visualisation of success while simultaneously reminding you of your motivations for change and the long term benefits of any new commitments to self you intend to make to meet these goals.
MRI research has also shown when we visualise practicing something successfully in our mind the same areas in the brain are activated as if we were actually completing the task!
