“When you contemplate the nature of self, you are meditating”

“When you contemplate the nature of self, you are meditating”
— Michael A Singer

Often when we are stressed we work harder and longer rather than giving ourselves permission to rest and recharge. Many people don’t know that when we step away from our desk or challenge and do something relaxing our brain is still processing the problem and activates alternative brain wave states that allows our subconscious mind to bring to our awareness creative solutions to our problems. For example, have you ever seen someone you know but can’t recall their name and then several hours later it comes to you? This often happens when our mind has switched off and is relaxed, the answer was in our brain all along but we were having confrontation naming difficulties in the moment and when we paused the answer came. Some research even suggests when we take a break to meditate that it can be more restrictive than sleep, like sticking your phone on the charger meditation can help your mind and body rest and recharge. Bodies of research (Dahl et al 2015; Goyal et al 2014; Jain, Walsh, Eisendrath, Christensen & Cahn,2022; Norris, Creem, Hendler & Kober, 2018; Orme-Johnson et al 2014)) demonstrate that 10 minute

  • Reduce stress, anxiety and the bodies cortisol levels

  • Enhance mood and reduce depression

  • Reduce pain

  • Promote healthy sleep patterns

  • Improve concentration

  • Promote self-awareness and positive thinking
