Anxious and can’t think and can’t think because I am anxious!
We need stress in our lives to get things done. Our body releases the stress chemical cortisol which peaks 30minutes after awakening, this is known as the cortisol awakening response and if we didn’t have this flood of stress we would find it really hard to get out of bed and start our day.
Similarly, if we are sitting a test, competing in sport or trying something new it’s actually helpful to be a little bit nervous as this increases our alertness and agility and the key is to maintain optimal stress levels to perform our best.
If however we have too much to do and have been experiencing heightened stress for a period of time we might start to feel tiered and wired and find it very difficult to complete anything successfully.
